The Canadian researcher Dr Aileen Espíritu has accepted the position as new Director of the Barents Insitute in the Norwegian border town of Kirkenes.

The International Barents Secretariat (IBS) in Kirkenes , Norway , is recruiting an adviser for project funding for the multilateral cooperation in the Barents region, and for maintaining the data base on environmental “hot spots”. Financed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden for a trial period of one year, the adviser will be an addition to the capacity of the Barents Cooperation.

East-West cooperation in the Barents Region is unique and can be seen as a good example for other border regions in Europe, the Barents Review – a new publication from the Norwegian Barents Secretariat – concludes.
