Indigenous Peoples in Barents Region

Indigenous peoples are one out of the five areas of priority for the Norwegian Barents Secretariat. There are several indigenous peoples groups living in the region. Despite long distance and different history, their issues and challenges in their daily live are much the same. The Norwegian Barents Secretariat’s work to promote Indigenous Peoples projects aims at connecting people across borders and vast distances. In 2009 the Norwegian Barents Secretariat granted more than 300.000 EUR to 19 different cooperation projects between indigenous peoples in the Barents Region.
