Every year the Norwegian Barents Secretariat receives approximately 600 applications for funding of cooperation projects. Around half of these meet our criteria for support, and these 200 to 300 projects are vital in achieving the goal of creating more and more cross border activity between Norway and Russia.
Every day, all through the year, there are Norwegian-Russian meetings and interactions going on all over the Barents Region where the Norwegian Barents Secretariat has contributed in facilitating the meeting. It can be association meetings for dance festivals or choir projects, enthusiastic youths debating human rights or environment issues, sports clubs gathering for competitions or joint practice, indigenous peoples cooperating on promoting their culture and identity, small enterprises on their first meeting to develop a joint business idea or maybe researchers discussing a Norwegian-Russian research program. The span of cooperation projects which have been supported by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat is very diverse and numerous.
The promotion of close relations between Norwegians and Russians in the north is the most important task of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat. Through thousands of project grants, the Secretariat has contributed in bringing together tens and thousands of Norwegians and Russians since the establishment of the grant program in 1993.
In the links to the right you will find news about the Barents Cooperation, there are presentations and photos of both ongoing and finished projects and there is also a view of all the projects we have financed since 2003.
