Culture and Welfare

Contact among people in the Barents Region must be developed and encouraged in order to stimulate cooperation and good relations.
Throughout history, cultural cooperation and frequent interchange between the areas of the Barents Region have existed and in order to enrich the existing relationships, the cooperation aims at preserving and, at the same time, promoting a common cultural heritage. The Norwegian Barents Secretariat has financed a wide range of projects within the area of culture and welfare.
The projects include activities like sport events, dance, festivals, cooperation in the areas of literature and ecclesiastical affairs, measures for groups in socially difficult positions, art exhibitions, music, production of films and others. A great deal of the projects involves activities for children and young people.
